Sign Up for the WIND Clinic and Regatta NOW!

July 8-12, 2009

The registration and info link can be found HERE

WIND is a comprehensive training clinic for young sailors ages 13-18. Coached by an accomplished staff of champion sailors, this immersion program will focus on performance sail trim, tactics and boat-handling in classroom and on the water sessions. Coaches will also familiarize sailors with the ins and outs of pursuing a National or Olympic campaign, including time management, money, travel and personal commitment.

Participation is open to Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, 420, Vanguard 15 and 29er sailors. Laser sailors may bring interchangeable rigs for different wind conditions. Charters are available. Participants must be members of either US Sailing or the Canadian Yachting Association, and must submit a sailing resume before the event. Coaches review all resumes and tailor the event to the ability of the participants. Meals and refreshments will be provided for the participants.

Please note: All youth sailors must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone.

The clinic is held in the Marine Park at Cascade Locks, Oregon, in the heart of the famous Columbia River Gorge. Cascade Locks presents a spectacular venue with steady winds, warm conditions, and plenty to do on and off the water. Families can enjoy hiking, biking, windsurfing, golf, or they can tour the towns in the area. Accommodations of all sorts are available, including camping within walking distance, or plenty of comfortable hotels. The Gorge is truly a great adventure for all.

Vancouver Lake NOR

This event is the Sears Bemis and Smythe Qualfier in addition.

The NOR is currently posted here. Please note a couple of corrections that have been made since the original posting:

· the Smythe eliminations will be sailed in Laser full rigs (not radials)

· we’ve added O’pen Bic dinghies to the invited classes. Kevin Broome from O’pen Bic is bringing a few demo boats for interested kids to try out and we plan to hold an informal “un-regatta” after the racing Saturday. Should be fun!

· Lightnings are available for charter for Sears competitors; however, you must register and request a charter by Monday, June 15, so we can arrange to have a boat available for you. Please note that a $500 refundable damage deposit is required for all Lightning charters. Register online here. To request a charter, contact LauraLee at administrator@willamettesailingclub.com or phone 503-246-5345.

· Coaches, if you’re planning on bringing a coach boat, please let me know in advance, and plan on helping out if needed for rescue operations.

If you haven’t registered yet, what are you waiting for? We’ve got a great regatta planned–first class racing, lots of food, t-shirts, good camping, plenty of water in the lake, fun for all. Deadline for early registration discount is next Monday, June 15. So do it now!

Looking forward to seeing you at Vancouver Lake June 20-21,

Dead Man’s Island 360

Saturday, April 18, 2009
Purdy Sand Spit, Henderson Bay, Puget Sound

This unique sailing event is sure to become a classic.  Henderson Bay is often the
windiest spot in the South Sound, and its southwest orientation means that it can really
blow in the event of the oft-prevailing southerly!

The racing will start in the vicinity of the Purdy Bridge.  Competitors will then battle their
way upwind through the fabled Henderson Bay chop for over an hour.  After rounding the
top mark, over near Glen Cove (where the nefarious pirate-dog “Glen” is said to have
met his match), participants will enjoy a screaming reach en route rounding tiny Cutts
(aka Dead Man’s) Island, then back through the start/finish line. The beat will be a true
endurance test, but the ride home will be worth it.

Henderson Bay’s long fetch and wide shores produce some great waves for surfing, and
it’s relatively shallow depth produces slightly less shocking water temperatures.

One long race determines it all … come find out for yourself why windsurfers have made
pilgrimages to this spot for years … we Double Dog dare you!
